An ethical approach to historical fashion

About the author

In 2011 I achieved a BA Hons in Fashion and Textile design and have now set up my own business designing for women of all ages. I am greatly influenced by the work I undertook in museums as part of my Costume Society Placement award. For my final major project for my BA I took the 1930’s as my inspiration giving it some modern influence, I have fallen in love with the draping, bias and open back detail of the period. My dresses are made of 100% silk satin, typical of this thirties period. I also make lots of other lovely pieces from different collections.

On Tuesday the 11th October I was at the Savoy Hotel London to help raise money for “The Urology Foundation”, I was asked by the “The Urology Foundation” to wear a 1930’s inspired, marigold coloured dress, which I had designed and made for the event. The dress was from my graduation collection and was to be auctioned off. I was asked to try and get people to bid on it to raise money. Ronnie Corbett and Sir Stirling Moss both commented on my dress.
The lovely lady who won the bid is called Lady Hazel Ellis. She has chosen a dress from my printed collection.
